Description
Historic Replica Constructions Vikings: Volume 3 (Edited by Stephen ‘Sven’ Wyley) comprises various projects with instructions on how to make the items while learning more about life in the Viking Age.
Vikings were wide travellers (raiders, settlers, mercenaries and traders), to the west they went to Iceland, Greenland and northern America, let alone Britain, France and the Mediterranean. And via the river routes Viking went east, to Kiev, Novgorod, Constantinople (Miklagarðr, the Great City) and into the Mediterranean. If you had enough money and gumption you could join the Varangian Guard, the personal body guard to the Byzantine Emperor (because they could be trusted because they held no local allegiances).
This is the third volume in the Viking series and by now if you have completed some of the projects in the previous books thus you will have most of the basic skills under your belt, so now we have set some harder tasks for you. Such as the Mästermyr chest, which has the most complicated joinery of all the Viking chests and its lock, the woven Varafell (cloak) which looks like its fur, and the Oseberg sprang loom. So good luck and be safe. For more in the series, see Volume 1 and Volume 2 or buy the limited edition box set.
