$29.95

The Journals of Micah is the story of a young man’s journey of self-discovery and gradual, heart-felt addiction to life on the road. Desperate to break free of small-town living in rural Australia, Micah once believed joining the army to be his only ticket out. Being turned down gave a kick-start to what would soon become his right of passage. Within a few short weeks of volunteering at a church in the Philippines, Micah survives the deadliest typhoon in the country’s history. The death, suffering, and devastation he witnesses there, while delivering humanitarian aid, leave the author struggling with PTSD and challenges his belief in God. The Journals of Micah is a raw, honest, and at times emotional, tale of a young man’s joyous road to self-understanding. Join him as he hitchhikes, motorcycles, and works his way through the back streets of Asia to the Himalayas. An unfiltered account of the cloud-touching highs and crushing lows of this young writer offers readers the sort of food for the soul that we all crave.

” Raw, real, stripped back. I have read many autobiographies, everything from ’The Happiest Refugee’ by Anh Do to old dairy entrees from ancient kings and queens. This book is truly in my top 5. A lot of Micah’s journey reminded me of the story in the bible of Jonah and the whale. Jonah tried to run from his destiny, run from God. But just like Jonah, Micah could not escape God…in whatever form he appeared in and whatever country he travelled to. As someone who has walked amongst the slum areas of poverty-stricken countries and still to this day suffers from PTSD, this book spoke to me in a way that friends, family, and psychologists couldn’t. The anger and frustration, wrestling with God. Wrestling with your beliefs and questioning everything that you grew up being told by parents and by churches. I applaud his bravery for the honesty embedded deep within these pages. Walter Mitty is the movie that came into my mind as I read Micah’s adventures in the Himalayas. The adrenaline rushes and near-death experiences. The simplicity of travelling and living with a few possessions in a back-pack and relying on the kindness of strangers. I often had google maps open while I read, every now and then flicking between tabs to look at images and maps of the places that were being described. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be there with him. Take in the sights and sounds. I even did this when an unknown food is mentioned, as someone who was a traveller I read this book with much curiosity… I will admit after reading the last few words and closing my laptop shut I had to sit in silence for a minute. I had to gather all of my own thoughts and experiences. I am not ashamed to say that I had to let myself cry for a good while. Life is one big climb up mountain after mountain and occasionally we get a breather, or in Micah’s case a chai with some shepherds, but it’s all worth it. This is one of the most inspiring stories I have ever read.”

An incredible book! The story of Micah is told so honestly that I found myself relating to him, even though I have never lived through anything like these insane experiences! Definitely one of those can’t-put-it-down type stories. The whole time I was either laughing/biting my nails/jaw to the floor/heart broken/questioning beliefs/completely gripped! Already recommending to my friends.
